Infant Bath Seat Final Rule

The Commission will vote on publication of a final rule to establish mandatory consumer product safety standards for infant bath seats. Staff has previously stated that the final rule is substantially similar to CPSC’s September 2009 proposed rule that would make the voluntary ASTM F1967-08a infant bath seat standard mandatory, with certain modifications regarding support in the definition of infant bath seats and a change to one of the testing requirements.

(See ITT’s Online Archives or 05/06/10 and 09/03/09 news, 10050610 and 09090320, for BP summaries of CPSC’s previous discussion of the final rule and its Sept 2009 proposed rule.)

Baby Walker Final Rule

According to the notice, the Commissioners will also discuss a final rule on baby walkers and “revocation of the ban of certain baby walkers.”

In September 2009, CPSC issued a proposed rule on baby walkers that would: (i) revoke the existing regulations for baby walkers as they do not provide a sufficient degree of safety; and (ii) adopt ASTM F977-07 as a mandatory standard for baby walkers, with certain specified changes. (See ITT’s Online Archives or 09/03/09 news, 09090320, for BP summary.)
