House Appropriations Posts Fact Sheet on Border Security, Etc.

The House Appropriations Committee has posted a fact sheet on enhanced border and immigration security which notes that over the last three years, Congress has increased U.S. Customs and Border Protection funding by over 23%. This funding has financed advance border control technology, including scanners to allow CBP to conduct over 32 million examinations resulting in the seizure of 2.4 million pounds of narcotics and over $19.2 million in undeclared currency.

Senate Energy and Climate Change Bill to be Introduced on May 12

On May 7, 2010, Senator Kerry issued a joint statement with Senator Lieberman announcing their plan to roll out comprehensive energy and climate change legislation on May 12, 2010. In the joint statement, Senator Kerry stated that he looks forward to rolling out the legislation and passing it with the support of Senator Graham and others.

Senate Passes Burma Resolution

On May 7, 2010, the Senate passed S. Res. 480, condemning the continued detention of Burmese democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and calling on the military regime in Burma to permit a credible and fair election process and the transition to civilian, democratic rule, after agreeing to an amendment.
