Full FY 2011 Funding for CPSC Requested by AAFA

Prior to a Congressional hearing on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's FY 2011 budget, the American Apparel and Footwear Association submitted comments to the House Committee on Appropriations requesting that Congress fully fund the CPSC to ensure proper consumer product safety regulation and to help the CPSC properly implement the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CSPIA).

White House Announces Intent to Nominate TSA Asst Secy

On March 8, 2010, the President announced his intent to nominate Major General Robert A. Harding, U.S. Army (Retired), as Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (Transportation Security Administration). (The President's first TSA Assistant Secretary nominee, Erroll Southers, withdrew his nomination in January 2010.) DHS Secretary Napolitano's statement on the nomination is available here.

Senate Passes Resolution Calling for Rebuilding of Haiti

On March 4, 2010, the Senate passed a resolution (S.Res.414) calling for the recovery, rehabilitation, and rebuilding of Haiti following the humanitarian crisis caused by the January 12, 2010, earthquake in Haiti. This legislation urges, among other things, the U.S. government and the international community to provide resources to support the government of Haiti's leadership in earthquake recovery efforts, to conduct a post-disaster needs assessment and to create a national recovery and development strategy.

Ag Chair Statement on U.S.-Russia Agreement on U.S. Pork Exports

Senator Lincoln (D), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, issued a statement in response to the announcement that the U.S. and Russia have reached an agreement on U.S. pork exports. Lincoln noted that she looks forward to working with USDA and USTR, in the coming months, to continue increasing trade opportunities for U.S. agricultural commodities around the globe.

CBO Posts Prelim Analysis of President's FY 2011 Budget Request

The Congressional Budget Office has posted a letter to Senator Inouye which includes a preliminary analysis of the President's budget request for 2011
