The correction will be effective June 28, 2010, which is the effective date of the final rule.

(CPSC's December 2009 final rule, which was mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), established requirements for domestic manufacturers and importers of durable infant and toddler products to enable consumers of these products to register and be notified directly if the product is the subject of a recall or safety alert. See ITT's Online Archives or 12/30/09 news, 09123035, for BP summary of the final rule.)

Inconsistencies Between Text and Illustrations of Registration Form

CPSC is issuing its notice to correct inconsistencies between the written text and figures illustrating a registration form in the December 2009 final rule. (The figures were correct.)

Bottom Back (Not Bottom Front) Panel of Form Should Have Blocks

Specifically, the notice corrects the final rule to state "The bottom back panel [instead of the bottom front panel] of the form shall have blocks for the consumer to provide his/her contact information as required in 16 CFR 1130.7."

Front (Not Back) of Bottom Portion of Form Should be Preaddressed, Etc.

Likewise, the notice corrects the final rule to state that "The front [instead of the back] of the bottom portion of the form shall be preaddressed and postage-paid with the manufacturer's name and mailing address where registration information is to be collected."

(See ITT's Online Archives or 02/02/10 news, 10020299 2, for BP summary of CPSC's scheduled vote on this correction notice.)
