Requests to make oral presentations must be received by August 18, 2009.

CPSC Hearing is in Response to Requests

CPSC states it will hold the public hearing as it received several requests for one during its June 2009 request for comments on its agenda and priorities for FY 2011 and its current strategic plan.

(CPSC has previously stated that its current Strategic Plan is only the agency's second, dates to September 2003, and focuses mainly on reducing the death rate from fires by 20% and reducing the death rate from consumer product related carbon monoxide poisonings by 20%. Revisions to the Strategic Plan were delayed for several reasons including the lack of a full quorum of five CPSC Commissioners for extended periods; the lack of a permanent CPSC Chairman; and the enactment of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) on August 14, 2008.

CPSC has also previously outlined certain goals and priorities for FY 2010 (though not yet for FY 2011).
