Globalstar’s 2nd generation constellation, said Globalstar. With this upgrade, Globalstar customers should expect satellite voice and data services until at least 2025, it said. Preliminary upgrades should be done by the end of 2008, said Globalstar CEO Jay Monroe. Globalstar will be able to monitor and control a “mixed constellation of first and 2nd generation satellites” starting in early 2009, Monroe said. With the upgrades, Globalstar will be able to conduct 2nd generation support and control “with minimal staffing and maximum task automation,” it said.
