U.S. Textile Industry Petitions CITA For China Safeguard Quotas on Cats 226, 443, 619, and 634/635

The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition (AMTAC), the National Textile Association (NTA), and Unite Here! have issued a press release announcing that on September 21, 2005 they filed petitions with the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) for China safeguard quotas on:

U.S. Industry to Continue to File Safeguard Petitions

The press release quotes the AMTAC Executive Director as stating that "the U.S. textile industry will keep filing safeguard petitions until all categories of interest to us are covered or the Chinese agree to a reasonable comprehensive agreement. So far, China has not been serious about negotiating a deal. Regardless of whether a comprehensive agreement with China is reached, we intend to take all steps necessary to ensure that China's ability to disrupt the market is curtailed."
