U.S. Textile Industry Petitions CITA For Reapplication of China Safeguard Quotas on Cats 301, 338/339, 340/640, 347/348, 349/649, 352/652, 620, 638/639, and 647/648
The National Council of Textile Organizations, the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition, the National Textile Association, and Unite Here! have issued a press release announcing that on September 14, 2005 they filed petitions with the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) to reapply the following current China safeguard quotas through the end of 2006:

1 China cats 338/339, 347/348, and 352/652 are currently subject to safeguard quotas for the period May 23, 2005 through December 31, 2005. All three of these quotas are currently closed.
2 China cats 301, 340/640, 638/639, and 647/648 are currently subject to safeguard quotas for the period May 27, 2005 through December 31, 2005. The quotas on China cats 638/639 and 647/648 are currently closed and the quota on China cat 340/640 is currently "on hold."
3 China cats 349/649 and 620 are currently subject to safeguard quotas for the period August 31, 2005 through December 31, 2005.
U.S. Industry Files Petitions to Renew Current Safeguards Seamlessly in Jan 2006
The press release states that the U.S. textile industry is seeking renewal of the safeguards through 2006, and is re-filing these petitions now to give the U.S. government the opportunity to renew the current safeguards seamlessly in January 2006 if no comprehensive textile agreement is reached.
U.S. Industry Intends to File Additional Safeguard Petitions for Fabrics, Apparel and Home Furnishings
The press release also quotes the AMTAC Executive Director as stating that "while the re-filings of nine petitions were announced today, the U.S. textile industry also intends to file additional safeguard petitions covering fabrics, apparel, and home furnishing products in the very near future."
