The Trans Atlantic Conference Agreement (TACA) has issued a press release advising that the suspension of the Congestion Surcharge at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has been extended for a further period, through July 31, 2005. Prior to August 1, 2005, and depending upon prevailing circumstances, an announcement will be made confirming either a further period of suspension, or the re-application of the Congestion Surcharge ($200 per 20 ft container and $400 per 40/45 ft container, against an effective date of August 1, 2005). 2. IATTC May Adopt Ban on Shark Finning at its June Meeting

The State Department's Washington File reports that the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) is close to imposing a ban on shark finning, the practice of slicing the fin off sharks and discarding the rest of the carcass at sea. The article states that the ban adopted by the IATTC at its meeting would cover the eastern Pacific Ocean. (In 2004, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas banned shark finning in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Mediterranean Sea.). 3. CITA Updates Preliminary May 2005 Textile & Apparel Import Data

The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) has posted to its Web site updated (June 20, 2005) preliminary textile and apparel import data for May 2005. Therefore, the preliminary May 2005 year-ending (YE) data and preliminary May 2005 monthly data for single categories has been updated. 4. List of 98 WCO Member Countries Who Intend to Implement Framework of Standards

The World Customs Organization (WCO) has issued a list of the 98 WCO member countries who have expressed their intention to implement the Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade.
